Health and Safety

Health and Safety is at the top of everyone's mind, in football, a collision sport there are many opportunities for injury. However, Football is a very safe sport at the youth level.

Below are resources which Halfiax Football will use to ensure the safety of our participants.

Concussions

Concussions education has become a major part of sports of late with the NFL and NHL adopting guidelines for thei management and major stars sitting out extended periods of time due to concussion like symptoms.

At the youth level of football concussion can a do happen. However, the majority are due to falls to the ground not collisions. Regardless, parents, atheletes and coaches should all be aware of the signs and symptoms as well as return to play guidelines.

In 2012 Halifax Football is taking part in an awareness program from the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and True Sport. This program will educate our players, coaches and parents about concussions and their management. The program is in partnership with ThinkFirst Canada, Hockey Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada. Below are some resources on the topic of concussions.
